, "on your side." >> a live look from the convention center for the funeral service for chuck brown about to begin any minute now. lining up to say their goodbyes to the man known as the godfather of go-go. many big names are attending today's memorial service. john? >> there are more than 14,000 people inside for this special memorial service. pretty much all of the seats are taken. this is the program they are handing out at the door for the thousands of fans to say goodbye to the godfather of go-go. each fan has a special story. hundreds of people started lining up well before the road were blocked and before the doors were opened. >> chuck brown was wonderful. he was such a legacy. >> inside, mourners are greeted by a montage as they walk by and the casket. >> 1986 my wife for graduating and chuck brown was doing a live report from the hotel room. i left my wife in the hotel. >> many fans had a chance to meet the 75-year-old godfather of go-go. today, those here are adopting this day as chuck brown day. >> he never turns you down. >> i used to sneak in the theater on the side of

-- murder of trooper wesley brown. john gonzales joins us from upper marlboro. >> the prosecution described this as an evil deed and they asked the judge for the maximum penalty. the judge said in court he believes this defendant would try to kill again so he did give him the maximum, life in prison without parole and additional 25 years. the 29-year-old learn his fate this afternoon convicted of killing maryland state trooper wesley brown. >> it has been a long journey for us. the hurt and the pain the tragedy of the event but we are glad that today it is finally over a justice was served. >> locals remember this heinous crime as the applebees murder. leslie browne was moonlighting as a security guard and through the man out. he returned an hour later with a gun. he and the bad gun as the trooper walked out of the restaurant. >> mr. williams is sentenced, i believe, and justice has been served. it provides no consolation to us whatsoever. >> today's sentencing was emotional, filled with heartfelt testimony from troopers, his friends and family about i have a partner that i cared for that c

will talk about chuck brown and a few minutes but in the meantime a program helping veterans out. a big ride from washington to virginia beach, a six-day trek memorial day challenge. it is not just a one-time event but part of an ongoing effort that helps keep veterans and engaged with hearing -- healing and rehabilitation. the district gears up to remember chuck brown at the howard theater in northwest washington, starts at 11:00 a.m. in the morning and goes until 10:00 at night and then and memorial service at the washington convention center thursday from noon until 3:00 p.m. chuck brown died may 16 at the age of 75. a near tragedy in the skies for an 80-year-old woman on her first skydive. something went terribly wrong from the minute the woman jumped from the airplane. fortunately she is alive and talking about the ordeal. you can see her out of her harness. it was all caught on video. dan harris has the story. >> it starts out as a charming little tale about an 80-year old celebrating her birthday with her inaugural skydive. >> i just turned 80. >> happy birthday. >> but when they wer

brown had been missing since midday yesterday. it turns out he was with a neighbor, but now she could face charges. >> it was an alarming 24 hours for the family of jayvon brown. he was last seen in the playground in front of his home sunday morning. he was playing alone and his mother says that she is not sure when he was abducted. today, tears of anguish have turned to tears of joy. police and security surrounded the apartment complex all morning, where the little boy lives with his mother. detectives interviewed relatives as well. surveillance cameras captured images of the boy leaving with the girl known as the woman's -- as the boys nanny. police received a tip and the woman described as having a mohawk for a hairstyle. criminal charges are pending as detectives questioned the woman. >> it is my nephew, and i love him. >> after a short phone conversation she cannot wait to see her nephew again. >> i said, do you know who this is? i said, this is your aunt. you could tell that he was smiling. >> d.c. police do not believe that he was harmed, but they did bring him immediately to c

of people expected to file through the howard theatre to remember the father of gogo chuck brown. >> very busy. i just got the chance to go inside a couple of minutes ago. inside it is very quiet as people make their way to greet their family at chuck brown. outside as people wait to go inside, much more of a celebration of the got father's life. >> hours before the doors to the theater opened, chuckaholics waited for their chance to go in and say goodbye to the godfather of gogo. >> he made us feel like he was family. they told us they were not at all surprised to see the large outpouring of love and support. >> i would go all over to see him. he was great. >> he passed away earlier this month due to complications from pneumonia. fans are still filled with a motion from his seventh passingudden passing. linda boyd followed his music for more than half of his life, attending concert after concert. he used to come out and shake my hand. he used to perform for sell-out crowds. the concert was pushed back to june because. music still rings loud in their hearts. >> ♪ [laughter] >> there wi
